Lets talk about “Protein”

Protein gets a good reputation as it is associated with building up lean muscle mass in the body. Protein is generally a beneficial macronutrient, however, most Americans overeat it. Protein is found in increased amounts in things such as eggs, beans, white and red meat, dairy products, and nuts. As one might guess, all of these things are pretty regular in American diets.

Protein should be eaten at about 0.8 g/kg of body weight. However, may need to be eaten in higher amounts with higher amounts of exercise and resistance training. The upper limit should be a max of 3.5 g/kg of body weight, but this is only short term and for heavy lifting body builders. For most people doing resistance training, it should not be higher than 2.0 g/kg.

Overeating protein may produce issues with your kidneys and digestion. Excessive protein will eventually be converted into fat, just like excessive carbohydrates and fats. This means overeating protein is just as bad as overeating carbs or fats for your body weight. Some essential proteins are found in animal products, so vegans and vegetarians may need to supplement their protein income.

Everything in moderation is very important, and even protein must follow this rule or it may hurt your body in the long run.
